James D. Husband

James D. Husband is the President of RailSolutions, Inc., a railroad equipment appraisal and valuation consulting firm based in Alexandria, VA. As chief executive, Mr. Husband is responsible for all areas of operations and serves as project manager on the firm's consulting engagements. RailSolutions provides a broad variety of rail industry and railroad equipment related services, including equipment valuation and appraisal studies, railcar and locomotive inspections, maintenance cost analyses and general advisory services.

During the past seven years, Mr. Husband has conducted valuations of over 400,000 railcars and 6,000 locomotives, and has managed client relationships with over 50 financial institutions, railroads and private fleet operators. A partial client list includes the General Electric Corporation, First Union Rail Corporation, Bank of America Leasing Corporation and Allfirst Bank.

During the period from 1991 to 1996, Mr. Husband was responsible for managing the railroad equipment valuation practice at R.L. Banks & Associates, Inc., a transportation consulting firm based in Washington, DC. From 1980 to 1991, Mr. Husband held the position of Vice President at the First National Bank of Atlanta, American Security Bank and Perpetual Bank. During his commercial banking career, he was responsible for the management of over $200 million in railroad and other transportation equipment investments. While at the First National Bank of Atlanta, Mr. Husband successfully completed the sale of a railroad equipment portfolio resulting in a pre-tax gain of over $ 10 million.

Mr. Husband began his career in the railroad industry in 1974, and held positions at the United States Railway Association, Conrail and National Railway Utiilization Corporation- His responsibilities at Conrail included the review and approval of all capital expenditure projects and equipment acquisitions, and the development of an economic limit of repair model which was used by Conrail for over a decade in establishing equipment repair and maintenance programs. While at National Railway, Mr. Husband served as Director of Equipment Remarketing, providing railroad equipment valuation and resale services to institutional investors.

Mr. Husband earned a BA degree from the College of William and Mary in 1970, and in 1974 he received an MBA from the University of South Carolina, graduating in the top ten percent of the class. Mr. Husband also served as an instructor of Finance at the University of Maryland while attending as a Ph.D. candidate. In 1987, Mr. Husband completed the executive development program sponsored by the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth College.
